Pupillage

ribbon New Court Chambers values its pupils very highly and we are proud to say that the majority of our tenants have completed pupillage here. Our policy is only to recruit those we consider to be potential future tenants. When selecting candidates we look for strong intellectual ability, independence of thought, a capacity for rational argument, motivation and stamina and potential as an advocate Most successful candidates will have at least a good upper second degree but we are also keen to take on pupils who will make a positive contribution to the atmosphere and development of chambers. New Court is a firm believer in equal opportunities and we consider all applications regardless of age, sex, race, beliefs or physical ability. Pupils are funded by way of an award for the first six months and an earnings guarantee of £6,000 for the second six months. The present provision for first six months awards is £6,000. tgate.gif We expect all our pupils’ earnings to exceed their guarantee during their second six. In addition, chambers will pay travel costs in the first six months and pay the fees for those courses which form a necessary part of pupillage. Applications are currently considered through Olpas during the summer season. Pupillages are for 12 months, usually with a change of pupil supervisor after six months. We seek to take up to 2 pupils each year with a view to eventual tenancy. Go to Mini Pupillage page
