Katelyn Gottschling

Katelyn joined Chambers 2020 after successfully completing her pupillage. She has appeared at all levels up to and including the High Court and accepts instructions in all areas of children law. Katelyn has a particular interest in cases with an international element.

Katelyn is regularly instructed across all areas of public proceedings in cases involving chronic neglect, mental health issues, substance abuse, domestic and physical abuse, and where there are concurrent criminal proceedings. She accepts instructions from parents, Guardians and Local Authorities.

Katelyn has experience in drafting threshold documents and advising upon the merits of seeking findings and reviewing the relevant evidence.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Katelyn worked in the family department at Freemans Solicitors, before joining Stewarts Law LLP, a Tier 1 ranked firm. During this time, Katelyn assisted on a wide range of children cases before the High Court, spanning public, private and international law. These include Re L (A Child) [2017] EWHC 3707 (Fam) and RJ v Tigipko [2019] EWHC 448 (Fam).

Katelyn has an LLB from SOAS and an LLB from University College London, in Family Law. During her studies she assisted various family law schemes and charities including the BPP Family Legal Advice Clinic and appearing at the Central Family Court as a McKenzie Friend. Through this work, she gained valuable experience assisting litigants in person and advising parties on child arrangements orders. Katelyn also worked in Cape Town, South Africa assisting refugees with complex inter-linked immigration and family issues.
